The new paradigm with Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise is predominantly server based, that is, the server handles most of the data processing and user interaction. As such, you can use the following tweaks to control the amount of processing the server needs to perform while authoring your maps and layers with Autodesk MapGuide® Studio.  Here are a few techniques :

1. Limiting Visibility by scale
2. Layers turned off by default
3. Set Layers as non selectable
4. Using other image formats instead of PNG (for AJAX)
5. Using Base Layers for AJAX
6. Using a Single Coordinate System
7. Use of Filters, Themes and Display Rules
8. Changing Selection Color Settings
